Stockbridge was granted a post office on April 5th, 1847. The post office was named after Levi Stockbridge who passed through the town many times and was widely respected. Many believe the town was named after him as well. While some believe this, others believe that the town was named after Thomas Stock who just so happened to be the president of the Georgia State Senate in the 1920s. In 1895, Stockbridge became a town and later on in 1920 Stockbridge became a city. The history is just one of the many qualities of this town.
